We’re in the middle of our grape harvest, and are working on turning these concords into juice and jelly. The vines are loaded, and we’re just so thankful. You never can tell what the harvest will be from year to year, and often one crop will do better than the rest. I have to say that this year everything is competing for first place.

Nearly every morning we work in the garden. Always

Nearly every morning we work in the garden. Always early before it gets too hot. We harvest produce or flowers, weed, water, tend, or observe. The children usually stumble out sleepy eyed, sometimes with coffee in hand, ready to help with that day’s work. I often assign tasks to each person’s strengths, but know sometimes it’s best to have them do things out of their comfort zone. They visit and discuss all manner of things, help one another, and cheerfully do whatever I ask. It is always time well spent- cultivating both the soil of the ground and the soil of our hearts.
